What is malleable iron? It’s cast iron that’s been heat treated so it’s tougher and less brittle than ordinary grey cast iron. That makes it well suited to threaded pipe fittings that get tightened hard.

What is a hexagon bush used for? It screws into a female fitting and leaves a smaller female thread in the middle, so you can drop down a size without an extra reducer.

How do I read a bush size like 1 inch x 1/2 inch? The first size is the male thread that goes into your fitting, and the second is the female thread left inside.
