About Our Solder Ring Fittings

Solder ring fittings are copper capillary fittings with a ring of solder already built into each end, so a joint needs only a clean pipe, flux and heat. They are also called Yorkshire fittings, after the original brand that made them popular. They are used to join copper pipe on hot and cold water and central heating systems. Because the solder is already in the fitting, every joint gets the same amount, which helps in tight spots behind boilers or under floors where it is hard to feed solder wire by hand.

Plumb Parts stocks solder ring fittings from 8mm to 54mm, including the everyday 15mm and 22mm sizes. The range covers couplers, reducers, equal and reducing tees, 90 and 45 degree elbows, street elbows, stop ends (end caps), bent and straight tap connectors, cylinder unions, full and part crossovers (passover bends), and imperial to metric couplers for joining older 3/4″ and 1″ pipe to 22mm and 28mm copper.

Solder Ring Fittings: Common Questions

What is a solder ring fitting?

A copper fitting with a ring of solder built into each socket. When the joint is heated, the solder melts and is drawn into the gap between the pipe and the fitting, sealing the joint.

What is the difference between solder ring and end feed fittings?

Solder ring fittings already contain the solder. End feed fittings have none, so you feed solder wire into the joint while heating it. Solder ring is quicker and neater; end feed is usually cheaper and lets you control how much solder goes in.

Are Yorkshire fittings the same as solder ring fittings?

Yes. Yorkshire is the original brand name, and the trade uses it for solder ring fittings in general.

Do solder ring fittings need flux or extra solder?

They need flux on the cleaned pipe end, but no extra solder. Heat the fitting until a complete ring of solder shows at the mouth of each socket.
