Solder Ring Bent Tap Connector 15mm to 22mm

The Solder Ring Bent Tap Connector takes copper pipe onto the male thread of a tap or appliance through a 90 degree bend. It comes in 15mm x 1/2″ and 22mm x 3/4″ on both our sites. A solder ring tap connector is the neat answer under a basin, sink or bath where there is no room for a separate elbow. The 15mm x 1/2″ suits basin and sink taps, and the 22mm x 3/4″ suits bath taps. It is for plumbers and anyone handy with a blowlamp.

The pipe end has solder built into the fitting as a ring, so no extra solder is needed. Clean the pipe and the inside of the fitting with wire wool, flux both, and push the pipe fully home. Heat until a bright ring of solder shows all round the mouth of the fitting, then let it cool on its own without throwing water on it. The other end is a nut that screws onto the tap tail with a tap washer inside. Make the soldered joint before you connect to the tap, so the heat doesn’t spoil the washer or the tap.

Common Questions

What are solder ring fittings?

They are copper capillary fittings with a ring of solder already built into each end. You clean, flux and heat the joint, and the solder runs round the pipe on its own.

What is a tap connector?

It is the fitting that joins the supply pipe to the threaded tail under a tap. A nut with a washer screws onto the tail, and the other end takes the pipe.

How do you use solder ring fittings?

Clean the pipe end and the inside of the fitting, put a thin coat of flux on, and push the pipe in to the stop. Heat the fitting evenly until a full ring of solder appears at the mouth, then leave it to cool.

Which size do I need for a basin or a bath tap?

Basin and kitchen sink taps normally have 1/2″ tails and run on 15mm pipe. Bath taps normally have 3/4″ tails on 22mm pipe, so the 22mm x 3/4″ is the one for a bath.
