The Solder Ring Blow Off Pipe Cowl is a small copper end piece for 15mm and 22mm discharge pipes, and it suits plumbers and DIYers tidying up the outside end of a run. It turns the flow down towards the wall and stops birds and leaves getting into the open pipe.

Where it goes

Fit it on the last bit of pipe that pokes out of the wall from a boiler pressure relief valve, a condensate overflow on copper, or a cistern overflow. Water that blows off comes out pointing down rather than spraying across a path or a neighbour’s garden.

Sizes available

15mm for overflows and the usual boiler relief valve discharge.
22mm for larger discharge pipes and cylinder overflows.

Fitting tips

Leave enough pipe outside the wall to take the full socket depth. Clean the pipe end and the inside of the cowl until bright, flux both, push it on and heat until a ring of solder shows round the mouth. Turn the opening to face down before the joint cools, and let it cool on its own.

Common Questions

Does it need extra solder?

No. The ring of solder inside the socket is enough for the joint. Clean and flux the pipe and fitting, then heat it.

Which way should the cowl face?

Point the opening downwards and close to the wall. Any hot water that blows off then drops straight down instead of going sideways.

Can I put it on plastic overflow pipe?

No, this one is soldered, so it is for copper pipe only. For plastic overflow use a push fit or solvent weld fitting made for that pipe.
