This angled pressure and temperature relief valve 22mm 10 bar is a safety valve for unvented cylinders. It opens if pressure passes 10 bar or the water overheats. Sold by Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
The angled pressure and temperature relief valve 22mm 10 bar is the last line of defence on an unvented hot water cylinder. If the stored water gets too hot or the pressure climbs too high, it opens and lets water out to the discharge pipe.
How the angled pressure and temperature relief valve 22mm 10 bar works
It does two jobs. The pressure side lifts at 10 bar. The temperature side opens when the water reaches 90°C, which only happens if the thermostats and cut-outs have already failed. So if this valve is discharging, something else is wrong and needs looking at.
- Size: 22mm
- Pressure setting: 10 bar
- Temperature setting: 90°C
- Angled body
Always replace like for like. Check the pressure and temperature settings the cylinder maker asks for, because a 7 bar and a 10 bar valve are not interchangeable. The discharge has to go to a tundish and then to a safe place, following the cylinder instructions. Work on unvented systems should be done by someone qualified for it.

Common Questions
Can a 10 bar P&T valve replace a 7 bar one?
No. Fit the pressure and temperature rating that the cylinder maker states, because the valve is matched to the cylinder’s safety design. Check the old valve and the cylinder label first.
Why is the P&T valve on my unvented cylinder discharging?
It only opens if the water is far too hot or the pressure is too high, so something else has gone wrong. A failed thermostat, cut-out or expansion vessel are common causes.
Who is allowed to replace a P&T relief valve?
Unvented cylinder work needs a person who holds an unvented hot water qualification. The discharge must run through a tundish to a safe, visible point.
