Compression Female Coupler
Compression Female Coupler is used for creating a Female Socket that can connect to Male Fittings or Appliances when connected to a copper pipe.
It joins copper pipe to a male thread. The Compression end grips the pipe with a nut and olive, and the female threaded end takes a male fitting or appliance connection.
How to Install a Compression Female Coupler
Fitting it is straightforward and needs no heat. Follow these steps:
- Prepare the Pipe: Cut the pipe to the correct length and remove any burrs or rough edges.
- Slide on Components: Place the Compression nut and olive (ring) onto the pipe.
- Insert the Pipe: Push the pipe into the coupler fitting until it reaches the stop.
- Tighten the Fitting: Use a wrench to tighten the nut, compressing the olive for a watertight and secure seal.

Common Questions
Can I use the compression female coupler on plastic pipe? Yes, it suits copper, PEX, barrier pipe and steel tube. On plastic pipe, fit a pipe insert in the end first so the olive has something firm to grip against.
How tight should the compression nut be on a female coupler? Do the compression end first: hand tighten until you feel resistance, then about a half turn more with spanners. Don’t overdo it, and don’t put PTFE or sealant on the compression side, as the olive makes that seal.
Can I use a compression female coupler on central heating? Yes, it’s rated to 16 bar with a working range of -10°C to +110°C, which covers heating and cooling work. Use PTFE tape on the male thread going into the female end.
Can I reuse a compression female coupler? Usually the body and nut can go back on, but the olive gets crushed onto the old pipe. Cut that bit off and fit a fresh olive when you remake the joint.
How does a compression female coupler work? At the compression end, tightening the nut squeezes a brass olive onto the pipe to seal it. The other end is a female thread that takes a male fitting, sealed with PTFE on the male thread.
What sizes does the compression female coupler come in? We do it from 8mm up to 54mm, covering microbore heating right through to large commercial pipework.
