Description

Galvanised Malleable Iron Reducing Socket F x F

Galvanised Malleable Iron Reducing Socket F x F used to connect two male threaded fittings or spigots of different sizes.

At Plumb Parts in Glasgow, we stock a wide range of Black and Galvanised Malleable Iron Pipe Fittings.

Due to their durability, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength these fittings are ideal when compared to grey cast iron and mild steel.

Galvanised malleable iron fittings have a zinc coating against rust, which makes them suited to water pipework in Schools, Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Warehouses, and Industrial Spaces. They are not for gas.

Malleable iron pipe fittings are available in black and galvanised finishes with the majority of fittings having the BSI Kitemark approval and conforming to BS EN 10242 and have UL approval.

Our stock of malleable iron fittings is of the Blackheart type which is ideally suited to pipe fittings and manufacturing processes which conforms to BS EN 1562.

Malleable Fittings Features & Benefits

Offer taper to taper threaded joints ensuring uniform stressing of threads due to full engagement between male and female threads, thus avoiding localised stress.

Made from ‘blackheart’ MI, ensuring even distribution of carbon content.

Specially tested fittings for high pressures above 25 bar

Have a full clear bore.

Threads with precise axial alignment ensure high sealing forces and a straight pipe run

Have a high factor of safety over the working pressure.

Fields of Application:

Sanitary and heating installation

Cooling and air conditioning

Sprinkler systems

HVAC

Steam

General non-aggressive media

Construction of industrial plants (e.g. emulsion and pressured air pipework)

Machine construction (e.g. oil, cooling, and lubrication pipes)

Commercial and domestic vehicles construction

Common Questions

What is a reducing socket? It’s a short straight fitting with a different sized female thread at each end, used to join two male threaded pipes or fittings of different sizes.

What are galvanised fittings? They’re iron fittings with a zinc coating, which gives them a degree of protection against rust compared with plain black iron.

Do galvanised fittings rust? The zinc slows corrosion down a lot, but once it’s worn or damaged, for example on cut threads, the iron underneath can start to rust over time.

Can I use galvanised fittings for gas? No, galvanised fittings are for water, not gas. For gas pipework use black malleable iron, and any gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Can I use galvanised fittings on copper pipe? Not directly, as the threads won’t match copper tube, and mixing galvanised iron with copper can speed up corrosion. Use a proper adaptor and ask us if you’re unsure.

How do I seal the threads? Use a suitable thread sealant or PTFE tape on the male threads, and tighten firmly with the right size wrench.
