The McAlpine SA10 is a tubular swivel P trap with a 75mm water seal. Please note the size: if you came looking for a McAlpine 40mm trap, this one is the 1 1/4 inch (32mm) version, which is the size for basins. Sinks, baths and showers normally run in 40mm (1 1/2 inch), so check your waste before you buy.
The trap sits under the basin waste and holds water to stop drain smells coming back into the room. The outlet is McAlpine’s Multifit compression type, which suits plastic, copper and lead pipe. The body is polypropylene, so it will not corrode and it is easy to cut back or adjust. Hand tighten the nuts with the washers sitting square, then run water and check every joint.

Common Questions
Is this a 40mm trap?
No, the SA10 is 1 1/4 inch, which is 32mm. That is the basin size. Sinks, baths and showers usually need a 40mm (1 1/2 inch) trap.
What is the difference between a P trap and an S trap?
A P trap has an outlet that comes out level, so it goes through a wall. An S trap’s outlet points down, so it goes through the floor. Pick the one that matches where your waste pipe runs.
What does a 75mm water seal mean?
It is the depth of water left in the bend to block drain smells. A deeper seal is harder to pull out when other appliances empty down the same pipe.
What pipe will the outlet fit?
The Multifit compression outlet takes plastic waste pipe, and McAlpine say it also suits copper and lead. Check the washer is seated before you tighten the nut by hand.
