Common Questions
What is a tun dish? It’s an open funnel fitted in a discharge pipe so you can see when water is coming through. It also gives an air gap in the line.
What size is the McAlpine tun dish? The TUN-2 is a 50mm tun dish with a 19/23mm universal outlet.
Where would I use a tun dish? A common use is on the discharge pipe from a relief valve, such as on an unvented hot water cylinder, so any discharge is visible.
Why does a tun dish need to be visible? Water passing through it is a warning that a valve is discharging, so it should be fitted where it can be seen easily.
What pipe connects to the outlet? The universal outlet is made to take 19/23mm pipe.
