How do I know if a lever valve is open?
When the handle lines up with the pipe it is open. Turn it a quarter so it sits across the pipe and it is shut.
What are the red and blue handles for?
Red marks hot and blue marks cold, so anyone coming after you can see which pipe is which.
Lever ball valve or gate valve?
A lever ball valve shuts faster and seals better over the years. A gate valve is cheaper on big sizes and suits low pressure feeds.
