JG Speedfit Plastic Push-Fit Stem Coupler F 22mm x M 28mm

The JG Speedfit 28mm x 22mm Stem Reducer steps a run down from 28mm to 22mm, with a 28mm plastic stem on one end and a 22mm push-fit socket on the other. It’s for plumbers and heating engineers on copper or Speedfit barrier pipe.

Push the 28mm stem into any 28mm Speedfit socket, such as the end of a coupler, a tee outlet or an elbow, then push your 22mm pipe into the other end. It’s a short, neat way to drop a size, and because the stem sits in a push-fit socket it can swivel to line up with the next pipe. A common spot is where a 28mm primary near a boiler or cylinder steps down to the 22mm system pipework.

The stem has no grip of its own. It relies on the socket it goes into, so push it in to the 44mm stop and lock that fitting’s cap, then fit the 22mm pipe (35mm stop) and lock the small cap. Plastic pipe needs a 22mm insert. Support the pipe either side of the JG Speedfit 28mm x 22mm Stem Reducer with clips, as the joint can turn. Common Questions

What is the stem end for? The stem is the same outside size as the pipe, so it pushes into the socket of another Speedfit fitting where a short offcut would otherwise go. It can swivel in that socket, which helps line things up in a tight corner.

Do I need an insert with this fitting? On Speedfit plastic barrier pipe, yes: push a 22mm Speedfit insert fully into each cut end before it goes in. Copper tube needs no insert. Speedfit only want their inserts used in their own pipe.

How much heat will 22mm pipe carry? Speedfit’s sizing table puts 22mm at about 13.6kW, based on a flow speed of 1.2m/s and an 11°C drop. Use that as a rough guide when you plan how many radiators a run can feed.

How should I pressure test it? Speedfit’s own method is 2 bar for 10 minutes, then 10 bar for 10 minutes, with boilers, rads and taps capped off first. A good test doesn’t make up for a pipe that isn’t fully inserted, so check every joint before you fill.
