When fittings sit further apart, a Brass Long Barrel Nipple bridges the gap between two female threads. Sold in 1/2″ at 3″ or 6″ long, so there is less need to cut and thread pipe. Supplied by Plumb Parts of Glasgow.

Brass Long Barrel Nipple used to connect two female sockets or appliances together.
Brass Fittings
Brass fittings are in high demand because of some inherent properties which make them superior to other materials and are suitable for carrying water, gases, chemicals, fire sprinkler systems, etc. Brass and DZR fittings are designed and manufactured in sizes ranging from 1/8″ to 4″.
They are available in either BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-1:2004/BS 21 – ISO7/1.
Most brass threaded fittings are hot forged, giving them greater strength to weight ratio.
Fittings made of brass are available in a wide variety of shapes and thread sizes to connect, control any air or liquid flow in a pipe or tube.
Brass as a material is easily machined and so can be given any shapes of the various types of fittings available.

Common Questions
When do I need a long barrel nipple?
When two female fittings sit further apart than a short nipple can bridge, but cutting and threading pipe is not worth it. The 3″ and 6″ lengths cover most gaps.
Can I cut a long barrel nipple down?
Only if you can rethread it, so it is easier to choose the 3″ or 6″ length that suits. Cutting off a thread leaves nothing to seal on.
Does the nipple need sealant on both ends?
Yes, seal each thread with PTFE or compound before screwing it into the fittings. Tighten each end fully without backing off.
