Description

Brass Flanged Plug

Brass Flanged Plug used to stop the flow of liquids and gases.

Brass Fittings

Brass is one of the most common materials used for making fittings, as a construction material is an alloy (primarily) of copper and zinc.

Brass fittings are in high demand because of some inherent properties which make them superior to other materials and are suitable for carrying water, gases, chemicals, fire sprinkler systems, etc. Brass and DZR fittings are designed and manufactured in sizes ranging from 1/8″ to 4″.

Threads are BSP to BS EN 10226-1 (formerly BS 21, ISO 7-1).

Most brass threaded fittings are hot forged, giving them greater strength to weight ratio.
Fittings made of brass are available in a wide variety of shapes and thread sizes to connect, control any air or liquid flow in a pipe or tube.

Brass fittings are used in industrial, automotive, and truck applications because they are strong and durable.
The advantages of brass for fittings include its good corrosive resistance, and also it’s plating, joining, polishing and finishing characteristics.

Brass as a material is easily machined and so can be given any shapes of the various types of fittings available.

 • Relative Softness of Metal Provides for a Tight Seal and Ease of Installation.
 • Brass provides a more solid platform (vs. plastics) to facilitate the flow of air and liquids.
 • Brass fittings have excellent high-temperature ductility and reasonable cold ductility.

Common Questions

What is a brass flanged plug? It’s a brass plug that screws into a female thread to blank it off. It stops liquid or gas getting out of a port you’re not using.

What is a blanking plug used for? It closes off an unused threaded outlet, such as a spare tapping on a fitting or a manifold. It lets you seal the opening without changing the fitting.

How do you fit a blanking plug? Make sure the female thread is clean, seal the plug thread with PTFE tape or a suitable jointing compound, then screw it in and nip it up with a spanner. Check it for weeps once the system is back on.

How do you remove a blanking plug? Isolate and drain that part of the system first, then undo it with a correctly sized spanner. Clean the thread before you fit anything else.

What size blanking plug do I need? It needs to match the size of the female thread you’re closing off. If you’re not sure, bring the fitting into the shop and we’ll match it.

Is there a chrome version? Yes, there’s a chrome plated 1/2 inch version for where the plug will be on show.
