Brass Hexagonal Nipple
Brass Hexagonal Nipple used when a male end in required in a female fitting.
Brass Fittings
Brass fittings are in high demand because of some inherent properties which make them superior to other materials and are suitable for carrying water, gases, chemicals, fire sprinkler systems, etc. Brass and DZR fittings are designed and manufactured in sizes ranging from 1/8″ to 4″.
They are available in either BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-1:2004/BS 21 – ISO7/1.
Most brass threaded fittings are hot forged, giving them greater strength to weight ratio.
Fittings made of brass are available in a wide variety of shapes and thread sizes to connect, control any air or liquid flow in a pipe or tube.
Brass as a material is easily machined and so can be given any shapes of the various types of fittings available.

Common Questions
What is a hexagonal nipple?
A short fitting with a male thread on each end and a hex in the middle, used to join two female fittings close together. Spanner flats on the hex save chewing it up with grips.
Can I use a hex nipple to join a valve to a fitting?
Yes, if both have female threads of the same size. Hold one with a spanner while tightening the other.
Do brass nipples need PTFE?
Yes, seal both threads with PTFE or a suitable compound, wound the same way as the thread. Tape wound the wrong way unravels as you tighten.
