Description

Brass Cap

Brass Cap to cap off unused pipes or tubes or stop the flow of liquids or gases.

Brass Fittings

Brass is one of the most common materials used for making fittings, as a construction material is an alloy (primarily) of copper and zinc.

Brass fittings are in high demand because of some inherent properties which make them superior to other materials and are suitable for carrying water, gases, chemicals, fire sprinkler systems, etc. Brass and DZR fittings are designed and manufactured in sizes ranging from 1/8″ to 4″.

They are available in either BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-1:2004/BS 21 – ISO7/1.

Most brass threaded fittings are hot forged, giving them greater strength to weight ratio.
Fittings made of brass are available in a wide variety of shapes and thread sizes to connect, control any air or liquid flow in a pipe or tube.

Brass fittings are used in industrial, automotive, and truck applications because they are strong and durable.
The advantages of brass for fittings include its good corrosive resistance, and also it’s plating, joining, polishing and finishing characteristics.

Brass as a material is easily machined and so can be given any shapes of the various types of fittings available.

 • Relative Softness of Metal Provides for a Tight Seal and Ease of Installation.
 • Brass provides a more solid platform (vs. plastics) to facilitate the flow of air and liquids.
 • Brass fittings have excellent high-temperature ductility and reasonable cold ductility.

Common Questions

Can I use this brass cap on a gas line? Yes, brass caps are made to stop the flow of liquids or gases, so they suit gas pipework as well as water. Any work on a gas supply must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Can I use a brass cap on copper pipe? Not directly, as this cap screws onto a male thread rather than plain copper. You’d fit a male threaded adaptor to the copper first, or use a compression or solder stop end instead.

What is a brass cap used for? It screws onto a male threaded pipe or fitting to blank it off when it isn’t being used. It comes in plain brass from 1/8 inch to 2 inch, with chrome plated versions in 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch.

How do I cap a brass water pipe? Turn the water off first, then seal the male thread and screw one of these caps on. If the pipe end has no thread, you’ll need a different type of stop end.

How do I fit a blanking cap? Put PTFE tape or a suitable thread sealant on the male thread, run the cap on by hand, then nip it up with a spanner. Turn the supply back on and check it’s dry.

What size brass cap do I need? Go by the size of the male thread you’re closing off, anywhere from 1/8 inch to 2 inch. If you’re unsure, bring the old fitting in and we’ll match it for you.
