Sometimes the only thing wrong with a joint is the nut, and a Compression Chrome Plated Nut sorts that without changing the whole fitting. It is a spare cap nut with a chrome finish, so it matches the rest of a chrome run on exposed pipe.
When to swap a Compression Chrome Plated Nut
A nut that has been over-tightened, rounded off with grips or cracked will not hold an olive properly. Also, chrome nuts sometimes go missing when a fitting is stripped down for a repair. Fit a new olive at the same time, because an old olive that has already been squashed rarely seals twice.
The nut has to match the pipe size and the thread of the fitting body. If you are unsure, bring the fitting in and the counter staff will check it against a new nut.

Common Questions
Will this nut fit any make of Compression fitting?
Not always. Thread forms can differ slightly between makers, so try the nut on the fitting body by hand before relying on it. If it binds, it is the wrong match.
Should I fit a new olive too?
Yes. An olive that has already been squeezed onto the pipe seldom seals again, and a new nut on an old olive often weeps.
Is it the nut or the olive that is leaking?
Usually the olive. Swap the nut only when it is cracked, rounded off or missing, otherwise cut back the pipe and fit a fresh olive.
