Description

Anyone looking for copper pipe coil 22mm should know this is straight 22mm Copper Pipe, the backbone of most house heating systems: boiler flow and return, the main legs to the radiator circuit, and the cold main or hot feed when you need more flow than 15mm will give. It comes in 1m, 2m, 3m and 6m lengths.

Use 22mm for primary pipework off the boiler, gas runs where the sizing calls for it, cylinder connections and the trunk of a hot and cold system before it drops to 15mm at the outlets. Check the markings printed along the tube if you need to confirm the grade for a job.

Copper pipe coil 22mm: straight lengths here

  • 1m length
  • 2m length
  • 3m length
  • 6m length

A 1m piece is handy for a quick repair, while the 6m saves joints on a long run.

22mm takes the full range of fittings: Compression, End Feed, Solder Ring, Push Fit and Press Fit. Cut it with a pipe cutter rather than a hacksaw so the end stays round, then deburr the inside so you don’t restrict the flow or chew an O-ring. A 22mm bender with the right former will handle most bends without kinking. Clip it at sensible spacings and allow a bit of give on long heating runs, as copper expands as it heats up.

While you’re here, you’ll probably want 22mm clips, fittings, flux and solder or a box of olives. Our full copper pipe range covers everything from 8mm microbore to large bore.

Common Questions

What is 22mm copper pipe used for? It’s the usual size for boiler flow and return, the main legs of a radiator circuit, cylinder connections and the cold main or hot feed before it drops to 15mm at the outlets.

Can you bend 22mm copper pipe? Yes, this is half hard tube, so a 22mm bender with the right former will take it round skirting and joists without kinking.

How thick is 22mm copper pipe? Half hard 22mm tube to BS EN 1057 has a 0.9mm wall, the same as the old Table X. The 22mm is the outside diameter.

How do you cut 22mm copper pipe? A pipe slice or tube cutter is best, as it keeps the end round and square where a hacksaw tends not to. Take the burr off the inside afterwards, especially if it’s going into push fit.

Is 22mm copper pipe the same as 3/4 inch? They’re close but not identical, as old imperial 3/4 inch copper is a touch bigger. When you’re joining new 22mm to old 3/4 inch pipe, you’ll usually need an adaptor or the right olive.

How do I solder 22mm copper pipe? Use solder ring or end feed fittings in 22mm. Clean the pipe and the inside of the fitting, flux both, push home and heat until the solder runs right round the joint.
