Description

Turning a corner where the pipes won’t take a standard bend is what a Flexible Rubber Elbow is for. It’s a rubber bend with plain sockets that slip over the pipe ends and clamp down with worm drive clips.

Where it goes

Typical jobs are a change of direction between two pipes of different material, such as cast iron to plastic, a repair on an old waste where the original bend has cracked, or a tight spot in a void where you can’t fit a rigid bend and offset. The rubber body forgives a small amount of misalignment. Like other flexible drainage connectors, it is for gravity drainage and should not be used on pressurised pipework.

Sizes available

Inch sizes here are nominal, so always check the outside diameter of your pipe before you set off. Old imperial and modern metric pipe can differ by a few millimetres.

Fitting tips

Square the pipe ends and clean them back to a sound surface. Slide the elbow on fully, check the angle, then tighten each clip a bit at a time so the rubber pulls down evenly. Overtightening can damage the rubber. Support the pipes near the elbow so the bend isn’t hanging on its clips. Spare clips are sold separately if you need them. For straight joins, caps and tees, look through our flexible rubber connectors.

Common Questions

When would I use a rubber elbow instead of a plastic bend?

When the two pipes are different materials or sizes on the outside, or when a rigid bend will not fit the space. The rubber also takes up a small amount of misalignment.

Can the angle be changed once it is on?

The rubber gives a little, but it is not an adjustable bend. Set the pipes at roughly the right angle first, then tighten the clips, and do not use it to force pipes that are well out of line.

Is the 4″ elbow strong enough for a soil pipe?

It will seal a 4 inch soil connection on gravity drainage, as long as the pipes either side are properly supported. The elbow should not carry the weight of the pipework.
