Description

The Gate Valve Compression x Compression BS5154 is an isolating valve with a turning head and nut and olive ends. Inside, a wedge shaped gate lowers across the pipe as you turn the head, and lifts clear when open.

Where to use a Gate Valve Compression x Compression BS5154

Gate valves are the standard choice on low pressure pipework because they barely restrict flow when open. You find them on the cold feed and outlets from a loft tank, on the feed to a cylinder, and on gravity hot and cold runs. Use 15mm for small outlets, 22mm for most tank feeds and 28mm on larger systems.

  • Sizes: 15mm, 22mm and 28mm
  • Gate valve with turning head
  • Compression ends
  • Full open bore when fully open

Fit it with the head upright or to the side, never hanging down, so dirt does not settle in the bonnet. Open it fully once fitted, then back it off a quarter turn so it does not jam. Gate valves are not made for throttling flow, so leave them fully open or fully shut. More options sit in our Gate Valves.

Common Questions

What is a gate valve used for?

It isolates a pipe while giving a clear, straight bore when open. That suits gravity fed and low pressure pipework where flow loss matters.

Can a gate valve be used to control flow?

Gate valves are for isolation, so use them wide open or shut. Half open, the gate wears and the valve can hum or chatter.

Why does my gate valve not shut off completely?

Scale or debris on the gate stops it sealing. Work it open and closed a few times; if it still passes, replace it.
