HENKEL Loctite Pipe Sealing Cord is a thread sealing cord wound onto pipe threads before assembly, for metal and plastic threaded joints. Sold by Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
Henkel Loctite Pipe Sealing Cord is a coated cord that you wind round a male pipe thread before screwing the joint together. It fills the thread and seals the joint as soon as it is made, with no waiting for anything to cure.
Why plumbers use Loctite pipe sealing cord
Many fitters prefer it to PTFE tape and paste. It is quick to apply, it suits both metal and plastic threads, and the joint can usually be turned back slightly to line up a fitting without breaking the seal. That last point is a big help when you are setting a valve or an elbow to point the right way.

Common Questions
Is pipe sealing cord better than PTFE tape?
Both work. Cord lays into the thread quickly and lets you back the fitting off a little to line it up without losing the seal, which tape does not like.
Can Loctite pipe cord be used on gas pipes?
Only if the pack states the approval for gas. Read the label first, and leave any work on a gas installation to someone on the Gas Safe Register.
How many turns of cord do I need?
It depends on the thread size and whether it is metal or plastic, and the pack has a chart for that. Follow it rather than guessing, as too much cord can stop the joint going fully home.
Winding tips from our Glasgow team
Make sure the threads are clean, dry and free of old tape or paste. Start at the end of the thread and wind the cord in the same direction as the thread turns, laying it into the grooves. The number of turns depends on the size of the thread and the material, and the pack gives a guide, so follow it rather than guessing. Too much cord can be as bad as too little. Assemble the joint and tighten as normal.
