Hose Union Bib Tap Valve 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch

For a garden, yard or garage, the Hose Union Bib Tap Valve gives a tap with a threaded outlet that a hose connector screws onto. It fits on the wall, usually into a wallplate elbow, so it stays firm when the hose gets tugged.

Fitting a Hose Union Bib Tap Valve

The 1/2″ size suits most homes on 15mm pipe. The 3/4″ size gives more flow, which is handy for wash-down points, commercial yards or filling tanks. Tape the thread and turn it into a matching female wallplate elbow until it sits upright.

Put an isolating valve on the supply inside the building. Then in winter you can shut it off and drain the outside pipe, so frost does not split the tap or the pipe. Where water regulations need it, fit a double check valve to stop back-siphonage from the hose.

Do I need a double check valve for an outside tap?

Yes. Water rules ask for backflow protection on a hose union tap, and a double check valve in the supply is the usual answer unless the tap has one built in.

How do I stop an outside tap freezing?

Fit an isolating valve inside, shut it off in winter and open the outside tap to drain it. Lagging the pipe helps too.

Will a click-on hose fitting go on this tap?

Yes, screw a threaded hose connector onto the hose union outlet, then your click-on fittings attach to that.
