Fitting a Garden Tap Kit

Most outside taps are fed from the cold main, close to where it enters the house. A branch is taken off, run through the wall, and the tap is fixed to a wall plate outside. Plan the route so the pipe inside can be isolated and drained in winter, because Scottish frosts split exposed pipework every year. Fit backflow protection, so garden water cannot be drawn back into the supply.

Drill the hole through the wall with a slight fall to the outside, so water does not run back in. Seal round the pipe with mastic once fitted.
