Description

A lever ball valve is a quarter turn valve for shutting off a run of copper pipe. Sizes: 15mm, 22mm, 28mm, 35mm, 42mm and 54mm. The lever ball valve 22mm is the common one in houses, for isolating a main cold run or a heating zone. The bigger sizes are for commercial and plant room work.

Blue levers are normally used on cold water, and red on hot water and heating, so anyone working on the system can see what each valve does. The lever lies along the pipe when the valve is open and across it when shut, so you can tell at a glance. Use it fully open or fully shut, not half way, as throttling wears the ball and seats. Check the lever has room to swing a full quarter turn before you tighten up.

Every size is kept at our Glasgow counter, so you can call in and pick one up the same day.

Common Questions

What does the colour of the lever mean?

Blue is used for cold water and red for hot water and heating. It is a simple code so nobody shuts off the wrong service.

How can I tell if a lever ball valve is open?

When the lever lines up with the pipe, it is open. When it sits across the pipe, it is shut.

Can I use a lever ball valve to control the flow?

No, it is made to be fully open or fully shut. Left half open, the ball and seats wear and the valve may not shut off properly later.

How do I fit a lever ball valve?

Cut the pipe square, deburr it, and make each end up like any compression joint. Hold the valve body with a second spanner while you tighten, and check the lever can turn freely.
