The Gas Lever Ball Valve F x F is a quarter-turn isolation valve for gas pipework, with female threads at both ends. Its yellow lever marks it as a gas valve, so it is not confused with water valves nearby.
Gas Lever Ball Valve F x F sizes and uses
The small 1/4″ and 3/8″ sizes suit gauge points and small appliance lines. 1/2″ and 3/4″ are common on domestic and catering appliance supplies, for example on a cooker or range. 1″, 1.1/4″, 1.1/2″ and 2″ suit meter runs, plant rooms and larger commercial gas pipework.
On gas, the valve has to be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Seal male threads with a jointing compound or tape approved for gas, hold the valve on the flats of the end being tightened, and test the installation for tightness afterwards. Fit it where the lever can be reached and turned easily in an emergency.

Water ball valves and gas cocks are in Valves & Control Devices.

Common Questions
Can I fit a gas lever valve myself?
No. Fitting any valve on a gas supply is legally work for a Gas Safe registered engineer, in homes and businesses alike.
Why does a gas valve have a yellow lever?
Yellow is the usual colour for gas, so nobody mixes it up with a water valve beside it.
What should seal the threads on a gas valve?
Use a tape or compound that is approved for gas, and tightness test the pipework afterwards. The engineer will know which product suits the job.
