Description

For long first fix runs, JG Speedfit PEX Barrier 15mm Pipe Coil saves cutting and joining dozens of straight lengths. It is the size most of a house runs on: radiator flow and return tails, basin and bath feeds and the cold supply to the kitchen.

Off a coil, you can pull one piece from the manifold or tee right to the outlet with no hidden joints under the floor. That matters, because every joint you leave out is one less place for a leak. PEX is flexible, so it bends round gentle corners and threads through notched joists. The barrier layer helps stop oxygen getting into heating water, so radiators and the boiler stay cleaner.

  • Size: 15mm PEX barrier pipe
  • Coil lengths: 25m, 50m or 100m
  • For hot and cold water and central heating
  • Joins with JG Speedfit Push Fit fittings and inserts

Tips for laying JG Speedfit PEX Barrier 15mm Pipe Coil

Unroll the coil instead of pulling loops off the side, so the pipe does not twist. If it has been in a cold van, let it warm up indoors and it will lie straighter. Cut square with plastic pipe cutters and fit a 15mm insert in every end. Keep it clear of sharp joist edges and clip it at closer spacings than copper. Fittings and conduit are in our John Guest Speedfit pipe section.

Common Questions

What does barrier PEX mean? It’s PE-X pipe with a layer that cuts down oxygen passing through the pipe wall. That matters on sealed heating, where oxygen getting in leads to corrosion and sludge.

Can oxygen barrier PEX be used for water as well as heating? Yes, this pipe is WRAS approved for hot and cold water and suits central heating too, so one coil covers radiators, basins and WC feeds.

Is PEX classed as plastic pipe? Yes, PE-X is cross-linked polyethylene, a plastic that’s been treated to cope with hot water and heating temperatures.

Can I bury 15mm Speedfit pipe in a floor? Only inside conduit, with access boxes over any fittings, so the pipe can be pulled out and replaced later.

Should I get the 50m or 100m coil? The 50m (15BPEX-50C) usually does a bathroom refit or a few radiators, while the 100m (15BPEX-100C) suits a full re-pipe.

How tight can I bend 15mm Speedfit pipe? The minimum radius is 175mm with clips either side. On surface runs clip every 300mm horizontally and 500mm vertically.

Can I use it for gas or compressed air? No, it isn’t for gas, oil or compressed air. It’s for water and heating only.
