The Potterton Gold RL2 Isolation Relay is a relay assembly for setups where two electric boilers run together and share the job of heating one system. Its job is to keep the pump supply from each boiler isolated, so one boiler cannot feed power back through the other.
What the Potterton Gold RL2 Isolation Relay is for
When boilers are banked, each one can call for the circulating pump. Without isolation, that leaves a live feed where it should not be. The RL2 sits between the boilers and the pump wiring, so each boiler switches the pump through its own relay contact.
The number in the name follows the boiler count. The RL2 is the two-boiler version. A single boiler sharing a supply with an electric shower, or a bank of three, needs a different relay, so check the boiler manual before you buy.

What is the difference between the RL1, RL2 and RL3?
The RL1 is for one boiler sharing a supply with an electric shower. The RL2 isolates the pump supply for a bank of two boilers, and the RL3 does the same for three.
Can the RL2 relay switch the main boiler supply?
No. It only isolates the pump feed between banked boilers, so each boiler still needs its own proper isolator.
