A set of flux brushes 3 pcs for applying soldering flux to copper pipe and fittings, so you get an even, thin coat on capillary joints without getting flux on your hands. Pick them up at Plumb Parts, Glasgow.

Description

This set of flux brushes 3 pcs gives you three small brushes for putting flux on copper pipe ends and fitting sockets before soldering. A brush keeps flux off your fingers and puts it only where it is needed.

Why use a set of flux brushes 3 pcs

Flux cleans the copper as it heats and helps solder run into the joint. But too much flux leaves residue inside the pipe, and that can cause corrosion later. A brush lets you lay on a thin, even coat round the outside of the pipe and inside the fitting. Having three means you can keep one for each tub of flux, or swap to a fresh one when the bristles clog.

Clean the pipe and the socket with wire wool or a cleaning pad first, because flux will not make up for dirty copper. Dip just the tip of the brush, wipe off the excess on the rim of the tub, and coat the pipe end. Push the pipe home and twist it to spread the flux. Wipe away anything that squeezes out once the joint has cooled. Put the lid back on the flux after use so the brush does not dry hard. You can find fluxes and solder in our gas and maintenance range.

Common Questions

How much flux should go on a joint?

A thin, even coat on the clean pipe end and inside the fitting is enough. Excess flux runs into the pipe and can cause corrosion later.

Do I need flux on Solder Ring fittings?

Yes. Solder Ring fittings carry their own solder, but the pipe and fitting still need cleaning and a coat of flux.

How do I clean a flux brush?

Wipe it on a rag after use and keep it with its tub of flux. Throw it away once the bristles clog or split.
