At the foot of a soil stack, the 110mm Underground 87.5 Degree Rest Bend Double Socket turns the flow from vertical to horizontal into the drain. This one is double socket, so both the stack pipe coming down and the drain heading off are plain pipe pushed into its sockets.
Why a rest bend and not a normal bend
A rest bend has a bigger, slower radius than an ordinary 87.5 degree bend. That matters at the foot of a stack, where everything from the toilet and the upstairs bathroom hits the turn at speed. A gentler sweep keeps the flow moving and cuts down the chance of a blockage building up at the base.
The rest bend carries the weight of the stack above it, so it needs firm support. Bed it on concrete or another solid base and make sure it sits steady before you build up round it, rather than propping it on half bricks.
Getting it right
- Set the bend on a solid base, as the weight of the stack sits on it.
- Get the socket facing up dead plumb so the stack runs true.
- Lubricate both seals before you push the pipe in.
- Bring the stack through the floor slab with room for movement. Don’t let concrete grab the pipe tight.
You’ll want soil pipe, and possibly an adaptor if the stack is grey above-ground soil. Browse our soil and underground bends for the rest of the range.

Common Questions
What is a rest bend? It is a long sweep bend at the foot of a soil stack that turns the waste from falling to running along the drain. The gentler curve keeps things moving and makes a blockage at the bottom less likely.
Why is it 87.5 degrees and not 90? The extra two and a half degrees gives the horizontal run a slight fall, so water does not sit in the bend.
What does double socket mean on this bend? Both ends are ring seal sockets, so the stack pipe coming down and the drain pipe going off both push into it.
What should the rest bend sit on? A firm base, often concrete, because it carries the weight of the stack. Pack round it so it cannot shift when the trench or slab is filled.
Do I need lubricant on the joints? Yes. A dry seal can grab the pipe and roll out of its groove, so use a lubricant made for ring seal joints.
Can it be used above ground? It is designed for below ground foul and surface water drainage.
