The Vaillant VRT15 Analogue Room Thermostat is a simple 230V dial stat for Vaillant ecoTEC heating systems. Set the temperature you want and it switches the boiler on and off to hold it. Ask for it at Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
A plain dial on the wall is all you get with the Vaillant VRT15 Analogue Room Thermostat, and for a lot of households that is exactly right. It is a compact 230V room stat that turns the heating on when the room cools and off again once it reaches the set temperature.
Using the VRT15 room thermostat
The VRT15 replaced the older VRT30, so it is the usual like-for-like swap when an old Vaillant stat packs in. It works as part of a 230V external control setup with ecoTEC boilers. It can also pair with the Vaillant timeSWITCH 160 programmer on combi, system and open vent boilers, with the timer setting when the heating may run and the stat deciding how warm the room gets.

Common Questions
Does the VRT15 replace the VRT30?
Yes, Vaillant brought in the VRT15 to replace the VRT30, so it is the usual swap on older ecoTEC installs. Check the wiring at the old stat before you take it off the wall.
Is the VRT15 a wireless thermostat?
No, it is a wired analogue stat. It needs a two-core 230V cable back to the boiler or wiring centre.
What temperature should I set my room thermostat to?
Most homes are comfortable somewhere between 18 and 21 degrees. Turning it down by one degree is a simple way to cut fuel use.
Where to mount it in a Glasgow home
Put the stat in the main living area, about 1.5m off the floor, on an inside wall. Keep it away from radiators, fires, direct sun and draughty doors, as they all give false readings. Do not fit a TRV on the radiator in the same room, or the two controls end up working against each other. The wiring is mains voltage, so it is a job for a competent electrician or heating engineer.
A common saving tip: turning the room stat down by one degree makes a noticeable difference to heating bills over a winter, so the Vaillant VRT15 Analogue Room Thermostat is worth setting with care.
