Class 0 Pipe Insulation Self Seal 15mm to 54mm

Class 0 Pipe Insulation Self Seal is pre-slit foam lagging in 2 metre lengths with a self-adhesive strip on the seam, sold for 15mm, 22mm, 28mm, 35mm, 42mm and 54mm pipe in walls from 9mm to 25mm, and it suits plumbers and heating engineers on domestic and commercial work.

Class O is the fire classification used in the Building Regulations guidance for surface spread of flame, tested under BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, which is why it is asked for in commercial buildings, escape routes and ceiling voids. Use it to cut heat loss on heating and hot water pipes, to protect cold pipes in lofts and garages against frost, and to stop condensation on cold water and chilled pipework.

The thing to choose is the wall thickness. For 15mm, 22mm and 28mm pipe we stock 9mm, 13mm, 19mm and 25mm walls. For 35mm and 42mm there are 9mm and 13mm walls, and for 54mm there are 13mm and 19mm. Thicker walls insulate better, so match it to the job and any spec you have been given.

Fit it to clean, dry pipe that has cooled after soldering. Open it over the pipe, peel the backing and press the seam closed from one end. Butt lengths tightly together and tape the joins, and mitre corners rather than squashing the foam round bends. Common Questions

What size insulation do I need for 15mm pipe? Pick the 15mm bore, which is sized to fit 15mm pipe snugly. Then choose the wall: 9mm or 13mm indoors, 19mm or 25mm in cold lofts and outbuildings.

Which wall thickness should I use? Thin walls suit heated areas and tight spaces. Go for 19mm or 25mm where frost is a risk, or where a spec calls for it.

Do the joins need taping? The long seam closes with its own adhesive. Butt joints between lengths should be taped so there are no gaps.

What does Class 0 mean? It is a fire rating for surface spread of flame, tested under BS 476 Parts 6 and 7. It is often asked for in commercial buildings and escape routes.
