A 10mm TRV angled pattern valve for microbore heating, letting each radiator hold its own room temperature where 10mm pipe comes up from the floor. Pick one up at Plumb Parts in Glasgow.

SKU TRVA10
Description

The 10mm TRV angled valve is a thermostatic radiator valve made for microbore systems, where 10mm pipe rises from the floor and turns into the radiator. That means no reducers are needed to suit a bigger valve.

Where a 10mm TRV angled valve goes

Many homes plumbed in the seventies and eighties use microbore copper from a manifold. Fitting thermostatic control to those rads needs a valve with a 10mm inlet. The angled pattern suits pipework coming up out of the floor.

The head reacts to the air round it, slowly closing the valve as the room warms up. Set bedrooms lower and living areas higher. Fit the TRV on the flow pipe unless it is marked as working both ways, and leave at least one rad without a TRV in the room with the main thermostat.

Microbore can block with sludge, so a good flush and inhibitor dose are worth doing when you change valves. Drain down or freeze the pipe before cutting in.

Other radiator valves are listed in the Flexible range on the site.

Common Questions

Will this valve fit standard size heating pipe?

No, the valve is made for 10mm microbore pipe only. If the radiator is on the larger standard pipe, buy the matching valve for that size instead of reducing down.

Does a TRV go on the flow or the return?

Unless it is marked as a two-way or reversible valve, fit it on the flow pipe. On the wrong side some TRVs hammer or chatter as they close.

Should every radiator have a TRV?

Not the radiator in the room with the wall thermostat. Leave that one on a manual valve so the thermostat and the TRV do not fight each other.
