A 15mm straight TRV for radiators fed by pipes that come out of the wall or along the skirting. Its thermostatic head keeps each room at its own setting. From the Plumb Parts counter in Glasgow.

Description

The 15mm straight TRV is a thermostatic radiator valve with a straight-through body, for 15mm pipe running horizontally into the side of the rad. You see it most where the feed leaves the wall rather than rising through the floor.

When a 15mm straight TRV is the right choice

Older flats often have pipes run along the skirting or fed from the side, so the valve sits in line with the radiator tail. A straight valve keeps it neat. If your pipe rises from the floor, look at the angled versions instead.

The head opens and closes the valve as the room temperature changes. That keeps rooms from overheating and cuts waste. Do not fit one on every rad in the room with the wall thermostat, or the boiler may not get a call for heat.

To change a valve, drain the system or freeze the pipe, swap the valve, then refill and bleed. Check the pressure gauge on a combi or sealed system.

Radiator accessories are listed in the Flexible range on the website.

Common Questions

When should I choose a straight TRV over an angled one?

Pick straight when the pipe runs along the wall and comes into the side of the radiator in line with the tail. If the pipe comes up out of the floor, an angled valve fits better.

Do I need to drain the system to fit it?

Usually yes, or freeze the pipe with a freeze kit. On a sealed system, refill to the right pressure afterwards and bleed the radiators.

What goes on the other end of the radiator?

A lockshield valve. It is set once when the system is balanced and then left alone.
