Asbestos Free Solder Mat to hold behind a joint while soldering. Shields walls, timber and fittings from the heat of the torch on copper pipe work. Ask Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
An Asbestos Free Solder Mat goes behind a joint when you solder, so the heat from the torch does not scorch the wall, skirting or joists. As the name says, it contains no asbestos, unlike some old mats still lurking in tool bags.
Why use an asbestos free solder mat
Most soldering happens close to something that can burn or mark: timber floors, painted walls, plastic boxing or cables. A mat takes the heat that spills past the fitting. It also helps keep heat round the joint, which can make soldering quicker. Fold or tuck it behind the pipe and you protect the surface for the few seconds it takes to make the joint.
- Heat protection mat for soldering work
- Asbestos free
- Goes behind pipe joints near walls and timber
- Reusable on job after job
Never rely on the mat alone. Look behind it for cables and insulation, have water or an extinguisher to hand, and check the area again after you finish, since timber can smoulder. Do not point the flame straight at the mat for long, and replace it when it gets brittle or holed. Other handy bits are in the tool accessories section.

Common Questions
What is a solder mat for? You put it behind the joint while you are using a blowlamp, so the wall, timber or units behind are shielded from the flame and heat.
Does this solder mat contain asbestos? No, it is asbestos free.
How do I use a solder mat? Hold or pin it between the joint and whatever is behind, then heat the joint as normal. Keep it there until the joint has cooled down.
Does a solder mat remove the fire risk completely? It cuts the risk a lot but does not remove it. Keep water or an extinguisher handy and check the area again after you finish, as timber can smoulder unseen.
Can I use the mat more than once? Yes, it can be used for joint after joint. Replace it once it is worn thin or holed.
Is delivery free on a solder mat? Larger orders go free, and the basket shows any delivery charge before you pay. You can also collect it free from our Glasgow shop.
