Description

The Rothenberger Supermat is a heat protection mat for soldering. You place it behind the pipe, gold face towards the joint, so heat that bounces off the fitting does not scorch the wall or woodwork. It measures 295mm x 200mm and contains no asbestos.

How the Rothenberger Supermat is used

Use the gold front side only. It has a heat resistant coating made to take deflected heat, but it is not meant for a direct flame held on it. The back is wipe clean, which keeps it tidy in the tool bag. Because it is a decent size, it covers the area behind most domestic joints, such as radiator tails and pipes along skirting.

Before you light the torch, check behind the mat for cables, plastic pipe and insulation. Keep the flame on the fitting, not the mat. Afterwards, check the area for smouldering timber, especially in floors and lofts. Swap the mat when the face is cracked or worn through. More accessories are in our tool accessories range.

Common Questions

Which side of the Supermat faces the flame?

The gold coated face goes towards the joint. The back is a wipe clean side and is not meant to take the heat.

Can I aim the torch straight at the Supermat?

No, it is made to take heat that bounces off the fitting, not a flame held on it. Keep the flame on the joint itself.

How do I know when to replace a soldering mat?

Swap it when the face is cracked, worn thin or holed, because heat can then get through to the wall behind. A worn mat gives a false sense of safety.
