Common Questions

What does F x F mean on a 45 degree elbow?

Both ends have a female thread, so it screws onto two male ends such as pipe threads or nipples. For one male end, look at the M x F version.

When would I use a 45 degree elbow instead of a 90?

Use it for a gentle offset round a beam or wall edge, or to keep flow smoother on long runs. Two 45s with a short nipple between them give a neat dog-leg.

Can black malleable fittings be used on gas?

Black iron is widely used for gas pipework. Anyone working on the gas installation has to be on the Gas Safe Register and use sealants approved for gas. The finished installation must also be tightness tested.
