Common Questions

What is an M x F 45 degree elbow used for?

One end screws straight into a female fitting or valve, and the other takes a pipe thread. It saves adding a nipple when you need a 45 degree turn right at a fitting.

What do I seal black iron threads with?

Use PTFE tape or a jointing compound rated for the service, such as gas or heating. On gas, the product must be marked as suitable for gas.

Is black malleable iron the same as galvanised?

The fitting shape is the same, but galvanised has a zinc coating to resist rust. Black is plain iron and is usually painted if it is exposed to damp.
