Why choose an M x F bend over an F x F bend?

The male end screws straight into a valve, tee or socket, so you save a nipple and a joint. It also keeps the turn tight to the fitting.

Does the M x F bend come in larger sizes?

This listing covers 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″. For bigger pipe, the F x F bend goes up further with a nipple on one end.

Can I use black iron for a water supply?

Black iron rusts inside when it carries fresh water, so it is not used for drinking water. Copper or plastic is the usual choice for water supply.
