Boss Gastite Pipe Jointing 400g is a jointing compound for sealing threaded pipe joints. A 400g tub for the van, sold by Plumb Parts at our Glasgow trade counter.
Boss Gastite Pipe Jointing 400g is a paste jointing compound in a 400g tub, used to seal and lubricate threaded joints on pipework. It goes on the male thread before assembly, filling the gaps between the threads so the joint holds tight.
Using Boss Gastite Pipe Jointing 400g
Clean the threads first, so there is no old compound, tape or dirt left. Brush or smear a thin, even coat on the male thread and screw the joint together. A little goes a long way, so do not pack the thread, because excess just squeezes into the pipe.
The name points to gas work. Even so, check the label on the tub for the services it is approved for, such as gas, water or heating, before using it. On drinking water pipes, only use a compound that is approved for drinking water. Leave any gas connection to a Gas Safe registered fitter.
- 400g tub
- Paste compound for threaded joints
- Applied to the male thread before assembly
- Check the label for approved uses
Two other thread sealants sit beside it in our Jointing Compounds range.

Common Questions
Is Gastite paste alright on a gas thread?
The name points to gas, but go by the approvals printed on the tub. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer should make or alter gas joints in a home.
Should I use paste or PTFE tape on a threaded fitting?
Both work on most metal threads. Paste fills worn or rough threads better, while tape is cleaner on small fittings.
Can I put jointing paste on a Compression olive?
Many fitters smear a little on the olive, but check the compound is approved for that water service. On drinking water, only use one approved for it.
