LS-x Leak Sealer 50g is a silicone paste for sealing weeping Compression and threaded joints from the outside. Handy for a quick fix on heating and water, from Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
A weeping olive or a damp threaded joint can often be sorted with LS-x Leak Sealer 50g instead of remaking the whole joint. It is a silicone-based paste that you work into or around the joint, and it seals from the outside.
How to use LS-x Leak Sealer 50g
Take the pressure off the pipe if you can, then dry and clean the joint. Squeeze the paste straight from the tube over the leak and shape it round the joint with a knife dipped in soapy water, so it does not stick. Then give it at least two hours to set before the system goes back under pressure.
It can also be used as a jointing paste on new Compression joints. A thicker layer takes longer to set, so do not rush it.

Common Questions
What is LS-X leak sealer? LS-X is a jointing and leak sealing compound for threaded plumbing joints, in a 50g pack. It stays soft rather than setting hard, so the joint can be taken apart again later.
How do I use LS-X leak sealer? It comes ready to use with no mixing. Put it on the threads of the joint before making it up, then tighten as normal.
Can I put LS-X leak sealer in my central heating system? No, LS-X isn’t a sealer you add to the system water. It’s for making threaded joints, and it’s happy on heating pipework as it works from below freezing to above the boiling point of water.
Will LS-X stop a joint that’s already leaking? It does its job best on clean threads as the joint is made up. If a threaded joint is weeping, drain down, undo it, clean off the old jointing and remake it with fresh LS-X rather than smearing it over the outside.
How long does LS-X leak sealer last in a joint? Once it’s in, it won’t shrink or crack as it ages, and it stays soft. That means the seal keeps holding and you can still undo the joint years down the line.
Is LS-X OK on drinking water pipes? Yes, it’s WRAS approved and safe to use on drinking water pipework.
