Description

Brass Running Nipple

Brass Running Nipple used in female fittings and appliances where thread depth tolerance may vary.

Brass Fittings

Brass is one of the most common materials used for making fittings, as a construction material is an alloy (primarily) of copper and zinc.

Brass fittings are in high demand because of some inherent properties which make them superior to other materials and are suitable for carrying water, gases, chemicals, fire sprinkler systems, etc. Brass and DZR fittings are designed and manufactured in sizes ranging from 1/8″ to 4″.

They are available in either BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-BSPT parallel or taper threads to BS EN 10226-1:2004/BS 21 – ISO7/1.

Most brass threaded fittings are hot forged, giving them greater strength to weight ratio.
Fittings made of brass are available in a wide variety of shapes and thread sizes to connect, control any air or liquid flow in a pipe or tube.

Brass fittings are used in industrial, automotive, and truck applications because they are strong and durable.
The advantages of brass for fittings include its good corrosive resistance, and also it’s plating, joining, polishing and finishing characteristics.

Brass as a material is easily machined and so can be given any shapes of the various types of fittings available.

 • Relative Softness of Metal Provides for a Tight Seal and Ease of Installation.
 • Brass provides a more solid platform (vs. plastics) to facilitate the flow of air and liquids.
 • Brass fittings have excellent high-temperature ductility and reasonable cold ductility.

Common Questions

What is a brass running nipple used for? It’s a threaded nipple for female fittings and appliances where the depth of thread can vary, so you get some adjustment on how far it goes in.

Can I use a brass running nipple on water pipework? Yes, brass fittings are widely used for carrying water and have good corrosion resistance. Seal the threads with PTFE tape or a suitable jointing compound.

Can a brass running nipple be used on gas? Brass fittings are used on gas as well as water, but any work on a gas supply must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, who will confirm the right fitting for the job.

How do I install a brass running nipple? Wrap the male thread with PTFE tape or use a jointing compound, start it by hand in the female fitting, then tighten with a spanner. The long thread lets you choose how far it goes in.

What sizes does the brass running nipple come in? We have it in 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 inch, and the 1/2 inch also comes in 2 inch and 3 inch lengths.
