The close couple kit 1 1/2″ flat plate version joins a close coupled cistern to the pan where the flush valve has a flat plate base. Seal and fixings in one pack. Sold by Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
This close couple kit is the 1 1/2″ flat plate version, made for close coupled toilets where the flush valve outlet sits on a flat plate. Use it to rebuild the joint between cistern and pan when the old seal or bolts let you down.
How the flat plate close couple kit differs
Close coupled cisterns are not all made the same underneath. Some use a flat plate around the outlet, and the seal has to suit it. If you are not sure, compare the old parts with this kit at the counter before you start.

With the cistern drained, undo the supply and the cistern bolts, then lift the cistern clear and scrape off what is left of the old seal. Fit the new seal to the flat plate, sit the cistern back down and tighten the bolts evenly left and right. A firm, level cistern is the target, not maximum torque.
Refill slowly, flush a few times and look for any weeping at the joint or bolts.

Common Questions
Standard or flat plate seal: which does my cistern use?
Lift the cistern and look at the old seal and the underside of the flush valve. If the seal sits against a flat plate rather than over a plain outlet, this is the kit. Bring the old seal in if you are unsure.
Is this the same as the 2″ flat plate kit?
No. This one suits a 1 1/2″ outlet and the 2″ kit suits the bigger one. A seal of the wrong size will not compress evenly and will drip behind the pan.
Can I put the old bolts back in?
Better not. Old bolts often have rust under the washers and the rubber has gone hard, so the cistern should go back on with the fresh fixings from the kit.
