Where a flush valve long cable helps

Cable operated valves are often used where the button sits on the side or front of a unit rather than straight above the valve. A short cable pulled tight will not flush properly. The longer cable gives room to route it neatly.

Run the cable in gentle curves with no tight kinks, because sharp bends make the button stiff. Fix the button first, then fit the valve and connect the cable so it has a little slack. Set the flush volume, and check that both the half and full flush lift the valve fully.

If it is a close coupled cistern, tighten the cistern bolts evenly so the new doughnut sits square.
