A close couple kit flat plate 2″ for joining a cistern to the pan on close coupled toilets with a 2″ flat plate outlet. Seal and fixings in one pack. Available from Plumb Parts, Glasgow.
The close couple kit flat plate 2″ is for the larger 2″ outlet found on some close coupled cisterns. It replaces the seal and fixings that join cistern and pan, so the toilet goes back together without leaks.
Sizing a close couple kit flat plate 2″
Some cisterns have a 1 1/2″ outlet and some have 2″. Measure the outlet or bring the old seal with you, because a seal of the wrong size will never stay watertight. This one suits a 2″ flat plate valve.
- Size: 2″, flat plate type
- Seal and fixings for a close coupled toilet
- Fixes leaks between the cistern and the pan
- Used on repairs and when refitting a cistern
Isolate the water, empty the cistern and remove it from the pan. Scrape away old seal residue so both faces are clean. Put the new seal in place, lower the cistern back on and tighten the bolts evenly. Do not overdo it, because the china will crack before the seal needs that much pressure.
Bring the water back slowly, then flush it several times and check underneath.
The 1 1/2″ versions and other washers are in our cistern fittings range.

Common Questions
How do I check my cistern needs the 2″ size?
Lift the cistern and compare the outlet and the old seal with the kit. A 2″ seal is noticeably wider than a 1 1/2″ one, so the old seal is the best guide.
Will a 2″ seal work on a 1 1/2″ outlet if I pack it out?
No. Packing out a seal that is the wrong size leads to a slow leak at the back of the pan. The smaller outlet needs the 1 1/2″ flat plate kit.
How tight should the cistern bolts go?
Turn them alternately, a little at a time, until the cistern sits level and firm on the pan. Stop there, because extra force only risks cracking the china.
