Toilet Handle Kit 1/2″

This toilet handle kit is the 1/2″ version, used to replace the lever handle on a cistern. When the handle snaps or the lever arm wears through, the flush stops working, and this kit puts it right.

Fitting a 1/2″ toilet handle kit

Handles take a lot of use, especially in busy homes. Plastic levers crack and the spindle loosens in its hole. Changing the whole assembly is usually quicker than trying to repair the old one.

Take off the cistern lid, unhook the lever from the syphon or valve link, and undo the backnut holding the old handle. Fit the new handle through the hole and tighten the nut. Reconnect the link so the lever lifts the mechanism fully when pressed.

Check the handle springs back and does not stick down, or the toilet may keep running. A drop of washing up liquid on a stiff spindle can help it return smoothly. Measure the old handle before buying, because a 3/8″ version is also listed.

Common Questions

Is my toilet handle the 1/2″ or the 3/8″ size?

Check the fitting where the old handle passes through the cistern. This kit is the 1/2″ version, and a 3/8″ kit is listed for cisterns that take the smaller size.

Why does the toilet keep running after I fitted the new handle?

The link to the syphon or valve may be too short, holding the mechanism up. Lengthen it a hole or two so the handle rests fully down.

Will it work with a push button valve?

Only if the valve is made to take a lever, like a button and handle flush valve. A plain push button valve cannot be worked by a handle.
