The Compression Bent Tap Connector joins pipe at a right angle onto the threaded tail of a tap, valve or cistern inlet, and comes in 15mm x 1/2″ and 22mm x 3/4″. It suits plumbers and DIYers fitting basins, sinks, baths and ball valves without a flame.
Where it goes
One end has a compression nut and olive for the pipe. The other has a loose threaded nut with a washer that screws onto a 1/2″ or 3/4″ male tail. Use the 15mm x 1/2″ for basin and sink taps and most ball valves, and the 22mm x 3/4″ for bath taps.
Sizes available
- 15mm x 1/2″ for basin and sink taps, ball valves
- 22mm x 3/4″ for bath taps and 3/4 inch tails
Fitting tips
Make sure there is a fibre washer seated in the tap nut before you start. Do the tap end up first by hand, then build the compression joint onto the pipe. Hold the tap or valve body still while you tighten so it does not twist in the basin or cistern. Snug the tap nut up firmly, but do not crush the washer.

Common Questions
What is a compression bent tap connector? It is a brass 90 degree fitting that joins copper pipe to a tap tail. A nut and olive grip the pipe, so there is no heat or solder.
How do brass compression fittings work? As you tighten the nut, it squeezes the olive between the pipe and the fitting body, which makes a watertight seal.
Are compression fittings reliable? Yes, made up properly they last for years, and they can be undone later for maintenance. Most leaks come from a squint olive or a nut that is too tight or too slack.
What size do I need for a standard tap? Most household basin and kitchen taps take 15mm x 1/2 inch BSP. The 22mm x 3/4 inch size is for bigger taps and higher flows.
What happens if I over-tighten it? The olive gets distorted and the joint is more likely to leak, not less. If that happens, cut the pipe back and start again with a new olive.
Can I reuse the old olive? Best not to. A scratched, dented or used olive is a common cause of leaks, so fit a new one.
