Compression DZR Stop End 15mm to 54mm

Nothing fancy here: a Compression DZR Stop End caps off the end of a copper pipe with a nut and olive, so you can blank a dead leg or a future connection without soldering. It is made from DZR brass, which holds up against dezincification much better than plain brass.

When to fit a stop end

Stripping out an old radiator, moving a sink, or leaving a tail in for the kitchen fitter to come back to: a stop end goes on and the system can be filled and run again the same day. Because it is Compression, it can come off later and the pipe can be extended. Bear in mind a capped dead leg holds stagnant water, so on drinking water supplies cut the leg back as short as you can rather than leaving a long run.

Pipe end square and clean, olive on straight, tube pushed fully in. A stop end has the whole system pressure pushing against it with nothing on the other side, so it is worth checking it under pressure before you box anything in. Leave it where it can be reached later.

Common Questions

DZR stop end or a soldered cap: which should I use?

A Compression stop end goes on without heat and can come off later, which suits a pipe you will extend. A soldered cap is the better choice where the end will be boxed in for good.

Do I need to drain the pipe to fit a stop end?

The supply must be off, but the pipe does not have to be bone dry, unlike a soldered cap. Mop the end so you can see the joint clearly afterwards.

How do I test a capped pipe?

Turn the water back on and leave dry tissue round the nut for a while. Check again once the system has heated up if it is a heating pipe.
