Made by Stelrad, from their Compact steel panel radiator range.
This 450mm high radiator is a double panel double convector, also called a Type 22 or K2. It sits between the common 400mm and 500mm heights, which helps when a window sill is a little too low for one and a little too high for the other.
Why a double panel double convector at 450mm
An in-between height means you can fill the space under a sill properly instead of leaving a big gap. The two panels and twin fin sets give a good output for the wall it takes up. That makes it handy for bedrooms and living rooms where the radiator has to sit under the window.
- Height: 450mm
- Lengths: every 100mm from 400mm to 1200mm, plus 1400mm to 2000mm in 200mm steps
- Type 22 (K2) construction
- Wall brackets, grille, side panels, plugs and vent supplied
Check the clearance under the sill once the brackets are on, as a deep radiator sits further off the wall. Mark the bracket holes with a level and use fixings that suit the wall. Set your tails to the radiator’s pipe centres, fit the valves and fill. Vent from the top corner until water runs clear of air, then check the unions again once it is hot. Common Questions
What is a Type 22 radiator? Type 22, sometimes called K2, is two water panels back to back with fins on both. You get far more heat from it than from a single panel the same size.
Does a double panel radiator give out more heat than a single? Yes, the extra panel and fins mean noticeably more warmth from the same wall space. The trade-off is that it’s deeper and stands further off the wall.
Can I swap a single panel radiator for a double? Usually, yes. Because a double sits further from the wall, you may need to adjust the pipe tails, and it’s worth checking your curtains will still hang clear.
Does a double panel radiator cost more to run? Not by itself. What you pay for is the heat the room loses, and a properly sized double simply delivers that heat from a smaller stretch of wall.
How do I bleed a double panel radiator? With the heating off and the radiator cool, open the vent with a radiator key until the air stops hissing and water appears, then close it. On a sealed system or combi, check the pressure afterwards and top up if needed.
Which length do I need? Choose the length whose output covers the room’s heat loss, then make sure it fits the wall under the window. A long one can often take over from two old single panels.
Are valves included? No, valves are bought separately. Our listing says it comes with the top grille, side panels, wall brackets, vent, plug and fixings.
