The Drayton Motorised Valve switches heating and hot water when the programmer or thermostat asks for it. We sell the ZA5 and ZA6 2 port zone valves, the MA1 3 port mid position valves, the ZA5 and ZA3 3 port diverter valves, and the ZA5, ZA6 and MA1 replacement heads.
A 2 port valve is a plain on or off zone valve for an S plan system. The MA1 mid position valve is the Y plan valve that sends water to heating, hot water or both. A diverter only sends water one way or the other, so it suits a system that gives hot water priority. The ZA3 diverter has no auxiliary switch, the ZA5 has a 5 wire switch and the ZA6 a 6 wire changeover switch.
The valve runs on mains voltage. Isolate the supply and wire it to the system diagram, or have a competent heating engineer do it.

Common Questions
Do I need a 2 port or a 3 port valve?
Go by the system you have. Separate valves on the heating and hot water legs is an S plan, so 2 port. One valve where the flow splits is a Y plan, so 3 port mid position.
What is the difference between mid position and diverter?
A mid position valve can feed heating, hot water or both at once. A diverter feeds one or the other, never both, so check what the old valve was before swapping.
