Flexible Connector Reducers For Cast Iron or Plastic step a soil or drain run down from one size to the next, clamping onto either material. The rubber body is shaped with a larger end and a smaller end, each tightened with its own clip.
What they’re used for
Use one where a 4 inch soil pipe needs to drop into a 3 inch branch, where a 6 inch drain takes a 4 inch connection, or where an old 8 inch main has to accept 6 inch pipe. Because the reducer is flexible and clamped, you can join different materials, say an old cast iron stack to a new plastic branch, without hunting for special adaptors. These are for gravity drainage only.
Sizes available
The figures are nominal pipe sizes. Before you buy, measure the outside diameter of each pipe, since iron, clay and plastic pipes of the same nominal size can be different on the outside.
Fitting tips
Get both pipe ends square, clean and free of rust flakes or loose coating. Slide the reducer on, check both pipes are pushed fully home, and keep them lined up. Then tighten each clip gradually so the rubber closes evenly. Below ground, bed the joint on granular material and avoid leaving it hanging. Above ground, put a bracket close to each side so the pipe weight isn’t on the rubber. We sell spare clips, and the full set of flexible rubber connectors includes straight couplings and caps.

Common Questions
Can a reducer join two different pipe materials?
Yes, that is one of its main uses. The rubber clamps onto cast iron or plastic, so an old iron pipe can step down into a new plastic branch without a special adaptor.
Which way round does the reducer go?
The large end takes the bigger pipe and the small end the smaller one. On drainage, flow should run from the smaller pipe into the bigger one wherever possible, so check the fall before you tighten it.
Does the joint need extra support?
Above ground, fit a bracket close to each side so the pipes do not hang on the rubber. Below ground, bed the reducer on granular material so it sits in line with both pipes.
