FloPlast P-Traps 32mm to 40mm

FloPlast P-Traps are tubular traps that drop down from the waste and turn out sideways, so the outlet leaves horizontally through a wall. They are an old favourite because they flow freely and are easy to rod if they ever block.

How FloPlast P-traps are used

Use a P-trap when the waste pipe runs back into the wall behind the appliance. Kitchen sinks, utility sinks and basins are all common jobs. Pick the trap first by waste size, then by seal depth. The 76mm seal is the normal choice where the waste joins a soil stack. The 38mm seal suits shorter runs or tight spots.

Fitting a P-trap

Hold the trap to the waste and mark where the outlet meets the wall pipe. Cut that pipe square and clean it up. The top nut tightens onto the waste tail with its washer, and the Compression nut takes the outlet pipe. Hand tight is usually enough with plastic, so go easy with grips. If the trap has a cleaning access, make sure you can reach it once the unit is back in. Run the tap for a minute, then check for drips at both nuts.

P-trap or S-trap: which do I need?

Look where the waste pipe goes. If it runs back into the wall, use a P-trap; if it drops through the floor, use an S-trap.

Which P-trap suits a kitchen sink?

The 40mm one, and the 76mm seal is the usual pick for a kitchen. The 32mm versions are for basins.

Why does my P-trap gurgle when it empties?

Gurgling often means the water seal is being pulled out, usually from a long or steep waste run. A deep seal trap or an air admittance valve on the run normally cures it.
